Prime minister's wife Rosmah Mansor says she is a victim of fake news.
Unlike her husband Najib Abdul Razak, who is a prolific social media user, Rosmah said she does not have any social media account.
Thus, she said, members of the public should be wary about information being spread through fake accounts.
“Clearly, there is mischievous intent to create a conflict between certain parties and I am also a victim of fake news,” Rosmah was quoted as saying by Bernama.
She was speaking at the opening of a seminar on keeping women and children safe in the cyberworld in Kuala Lumpur today.
In her speech, Rosmah said Internet addiction was a growing problem that could damage their social skills, thinking, learning, emotions and even family ties.
“An emptiness in family ties results in reduced instilling of noble values and role modelling, which are crucial in nurturing children into becoming responsible adults who love peace.
“This is an inter-generational problem which will repeat and can later lead to the risk of children becoming victims or predators of cybercrimes,” Rosmah said
The one-day seminar, organised by the National Council of Women's Organisations (NCWO) and CyberSecurity Malaysia, was attended by about 1,200 participants from private agencies, youth groups, children and participants of Permata.- Mkini
