PETALING JAYA: The Seberang Prai Municipal Council has put up signboards prohibiting the public from drinking liquor or alcoholic beverages at several public parks and playgrounds near Butterworth, Penang.
The signboards were erected at five locations on Friday, warning the public that it was an offence to consume alcohol in a public area under Section 268 of the Penal Code and causing a public nuisance, reported The Star.
The signboard also urged the public to call the nearest police station if they spotted anyone committing the offence.
“Three signboards were put up in Butterworth in Taman Bagan Baru, Taman Ria and Taman Jawa, while two more were erected in Prai in Taman Supreme and Taman Prai Utama,” Seberang Prai municipal councillor David Marshel said.
He said the signboards were put up following complaints by the public about nuisance caused by drunkards at public parks and children’s playgrounds. -FMT
