MCA Youth chief Chong Sin Woon said that anyone can be the prime minister of Malaysia, because there are no religious or racial stipulations in the Federal Constitution.
In view of this, even DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang (photo) can be prime minister if he was supported by the majority of MPs, he noted.
“We can see that DAP currently dominates the opposition bloc, but they are aware of the sensitivities and are trying to hide (their ambitions).
“The Federal Constitution does not stipulate the ethnicity or religion for the prime minister.
“An MP can be prime minister if the person has the majority support in the Dewan Rakyat,” he told reporters in Kota Bharu, Kelantan today.
He added that unlike state laws on the position of menteri besar, there was absolutely no legal hurdle for Lim to be prime minister.
Chong said this when asked to respond to former law minister Zaid Ibrahim, who recently said Lim would make a better prime ministerthan anyone in Umno.
Zaid was responding to Umno leaders, who had repeatedly claimed that Lim would be the de facto prime minister should Pakatan Harapan come to power.
According to Zaid, what the Umno leaders were proposing was not a bad idea.
