Changes are expected in MACC's top leadership following deputy chief commissioner Azam Baki going on medical leave.
According to sources, Azam, 56, who is in charge of operations, was admitted to the Putrajaya Hospital last month.
Several days after he was discharged, the senior officer is said to have collapsed and was admitted to the intensive care unit.
"What we know is that he had kidney failure," said a source, who declined to be named.
Malaysiakini's check with the hospital found that Azam, who oversees important divisions in MACC, including intelligence and investigation, had been discharged on Aug 10.
Due to his health condition, sources said MACC would most likely appoint an acting deputy chief commissioner to oversee operational matters.
However, no names have been mentioned yet for the post.
Malaysiakini had also contacted MACC chief commissioner Latheefa Koya who did not comment.
For the record, the deputy chief commissioner post for operations is considered the most vital in MACC.
Besides overseeing the investigation and intelligence divisions, the person is also in charge of MACC's special operations division, anti-money laundering division, forensics division, as well as state MACC offices' operations. - Mkini
