ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police have arrested 39 individuals and clamped down on five vehicle theft gangs in Iskandar Puteri since January this year.
Iskandar Puteri Deputy OCPD Supt Ibrahim Mat Som said that a task force dubbed "Ops Lejang Khas Iskandar Puteri" was formed in the beginning of the year to curb vehicle thefts plaguing the district.
"As of Wednesday (Aug 14), we have arrested 39 suspects, including three foreigners, aged from 13 to 45 years old for vehicle thefts.
"Of the number, 15 are members of gangs that have been actively involved in vehicle thefts in the district, " he said in a press conference at the Iskandar Puteri police headquarters here Thursday (Aug 15).
He added that eight cars and 18 motorcycles worth RM288, 000 were also seized during the operations. -Star
