Court declares Anifah's win null and void, orders by-election for Kimanis

The Kota Kinabalu Elections Court this afternoon declared former foreign affairs minister Anifah Aman's victory in the Kimanis parliamentary seat during the last general election null and void.

Contacted later, Election Commission chief Azhar Harun confirmed this, saying that he had been informed of the ruling by EC officers who were present in court.

"The court announced that the win was null and void. The court set aside the result, and ordered for a by-election," he told Malaysiakini.

Following the election, Warisan candidate for the seat Karim Bujang filed an election petition to challenge the outcome.

Anifah, who won the seat with a slim majority of 156 votes, told Malaysiakini that he would appeal the decision.
