TAPAH: Four prisoners from Tapah Prison have been given a seven-day break under the prison's Licensed Prisoner Release programme (PBSL) in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidil Adha season.
Prison director Kamarulzaman Mamat said this was the first time such a programme was held and was part of the rehabilitation process for the inmates.
“Most of them will be abandoned by their families after being released, despite their good behaviour, so we want to change that perception, ” he told reporters after releasing the prisoners at the prison here Thursday (Aug 8).
“Although they have a bad past, it doesn't mean they can’t change for the better, ” he added.
Kamarulzaman said those eligible for the programme are those who have spent at least four years in prison.
“The prisoners we selected have shown much progress and potential.
“We also contacted their families for permission first.
“They must report back here on Aug 14, ” he added.- Star
