PUTRAJAYA: The government has declared the measles outbreak at an Orang Asli settlement in Gua Musang, Kelantan, which claimed four lives in June, as over.
The health ministry also said all children in Kampung Kuala Koh have received their measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccination jab.
Dr Aaisah Senin from the ministry’s Disease Control Division said 100% of the Orang Asli children at the village have received MMR immunisation.
“The measure of measles outbreak in Kuala Koh is under control and the health ministry has undertaken supplementary immunisation activities to the indigenous children in all affected areas,” she told reporters today.
Dr Aaisah Senin.
Aaisah said the ministry plans to extend the coverage of MMR immunisation to other Orang Asli areas.
“We have educated them from health perspective. So when they go out or fall sick, they will go to our nearest health facilities.”
In June, it was reported that four Orang Asli villages died due to measles.
Between June 3 and June 9, 178 cases of measles were reported including 147 in Kelantan, 23 in Terengganu and eight in Pahang. - FMT
