The specific location of the permanent disposal facility (PDF) identified by Pahang state government should be away from residential areas, says Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin (photo, above).
"It should be away from residences," she told a press conference when asked about the criteria of Lynas' PDFt.
Zuraida said the location of PDF must pass all relevant tests and obtain certification before it would be approved by the local government.
"Once the (state) government identifies the place, then all the agencies will go and check whether it is viable or not," she said.
Zuraida said her ministry would not play any part in identifying a location for the. PDF.
One of three conditions set by the cabinet in issuing a six-month operating license extension to Lynas was the setting up of a PDF.
It was reported that several locations in Pahang had been identified as potential sites for the PDF, namely Lepar, Luit, Padang Tengku, Bukit Ibam and Chini.
On Aug 19, Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail denied that the state government never discussed with Lynas about the PDF.
When asked about this, Zuraida said she has no idea on the potential site for the PDF.
