Malays have conceded too much to 'racists', minister reiterates stand

Entrepreneur Development Minister Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof reiterated his stance that the Malays have compromised too much with "racists" and urged all to adhere to the Federal Constitution.
"The Malays are clear - we want to coexist with other races. We are not racist. We want other races to coexist based on the constitution.
"The society must understand that other than the flag, we have the constitution, we have (an official) language," he told journalists in Kuala Lumpur today.
Last week, Utusan Malaysia quoted the Malacca Bersatu chief as saying that Malays have given in too much with racist demands and urged the former to defend Malay culturebefore it is destroyed.

Asked to elaborate this evening, Redzuan cited Chinese education group Dong Zong as an example, saying the latter lacked an understanding of the constitution.
"All these are consequential. They feel a distance with the constitution.
"I am afraid that the gap will widen and lead to racial issues. I don't want this to happen in the country," he added.
Dong Zong was one of the vocal opponents to the planned introduction of the compulsory teaching of Jawi khat (calligraphy) for Standard Four pupils.
Following a strong pushback from non-Malay communities, the Education Ministry later decided that the implementation would be subject to the consent of parent-teacher associations and students at vernacular schools.
Perlis mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin had also urged Malaysians to sign a petition calling for a ban on Dong Zong, which he claimed was racist.
Meanwhile, Redzuan said failing to understand the constitution would give rise to racism and those who think that "what is mine is mine and what is yours is also mine."
Utusan had also reported the Bersatu leader's complaint that the government had been soft in its approach in tackling the khat issue. - Mkini
