My principles more important than my career, says Selangor exco man

PETALING JAYA: Selangor executive councillor V Ganabatirau said he stands by his principles on the issue of unilateral conversion of minors even if it means the end of his political career.
Ganabatirau was one of the four non-Muslim Selangor exco members who had an audience with Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah on Thursday over the menteri besar’s alleged push to introduce unilateral conversion of minors in Selangor.
The others were Teng Chang Khim, Hee Loy Sian and Ng Sze Han.
In a Facebook posting today, DAP’s Ganabatirau said his stand against the unilateral conversion of minors was “crystal clear”.
He said justice and fairness did not belong to any particular religion or race but to all humans “without any biasness”.
“Even it’s going to end my political career,  I’ll stand by my principles,” he said.
Earlier, Selangor DAP had stated that it would not support any bill in the state assembly that allows unilateral conversion of minors.
State DAP chairman Gobind Singh Deo insisted that any attempt to introduce such a law would go against the Federal Constitution.
However, Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said he would bring up the motion at the next state assembly meeting “if there is a need”.

He said the proposal was still being discussed at the state level and needed deliberation by all parties in Pakatan Harapan. - FMT
