'No politics, only B40 policies', says Zuraida on Selangor Adun meeting

Housing and Local Government minister Zuraida Kamaruddin (photo) today denied that her meeting with Selangor assemblypersons on Thursday was to discuss political issues in the state.
Instead, she explained to reporters this morning that the meeting was a briefing on the government's National Community Policy.
"I was talking about the National Community Policy, because of my focus on (the issues of) PPR homes," she said at the sideline of a community programme in Taman Melawati, Kuala Lumpur this morning.
Zuraida was responding to a question on the purpose of her meeting with the assemblypersons held on Thursday evening.
Elaborating further, the PKR vice-president said the focus on PPR homes was based on the ministry's efforts to improve the quality of life for the B40 group.
"This is the group (B40) where we need to carry out empowerment programmes more intensively.
"Awareness must be raised with more programmes and briefings with the community on how to cultivate themselves.
"If we can improve the life of the B40 group, upgrade their quality of life, the whole country will see the results of the progress," she said.
It was reported that Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari was holding a meeting with Selangor assemblypersons on Thursday evening to discuss political issues in the state.
Amirudin, however, told the media yesterday that he did not attend the meeting as it was not a political discussion, but only to discuss community initiatives by the ministry.

Zuraida ready to meet Sarawak CM on local govt issue
Meanwhile, on a separate matter, Zuraida denied meeting Sarawak Chief Minister Abang Johari Abang Openg (photo) to discuss issues related to the state's local governments.
Abang Johari had reportedly said at an event in Kuching recently that he had rejected an apparent bid by Putrajaya to "take over" the administration of its local councils.
Puzzled with Abang Johari's statement, Zuraida said she was not sure where the chief minister got the information from.
"I have not met him actually, nor did I speak to him about local government issues.
"I also don't know where he got that information. But as a response to his statement, I will say that I am willing to meet him," Zuraida said. - Mkini
