JOHOR BARU: A man was killed on the spot when the Toyota Hilux truck driven by him skidded and rammed into a road divider on Monday (Aug 5).
According to Larkin Fire and Rescue Department chief Nazarudin Yuof, the accident happened at the junction of Jalan Besar Skudai and Taman Johor at about 2.16am.
He said the incident involved three vehicles – a Toyota Hilux driven by the victim, K. Vijayanathan, 32, a Proton Persona driven by one D. Martin, 32, and a Proton Wira.
Nazarudin said the Proton Wira was parked along the road side, as the driver, 68-year-old Zakaria Mohd Yasin, was waiting for his family to finish selling food.
He said K. Vijayanathan and D. Martin were travelling from Skudai to Johor Baru when the incident took place.
“The driver of the Toyota Hilux lost control of his truck and hit the rear of the Proton Persona after ramming into the road divider, " he said.
Nazarudin said the driver of the Proton Persona then hit the parked Proton Wira, in which Zakaria was sitting.
He added that the roof of the Toyota Hilux was badly damaged in the incident, and firefighters took about 10 minutes to extract the victim’s body.
According to him, the operation involving two fire engines and 10 personnel from Larkin Fire and Rescue Department ended at around 3.21am.
The victim’s body was handed over to police, while D. Martin, who suffered injuries, was admitted to Sultanah Aminah Hospital; Zakaria escaped unhurt. - Star
