OUT OF IDEAS, SHAFEE DRAGS IN MURDERED DPP KEVIN MORAIS TO HELP ‘CLEAR’ NAJIB: BUT NO ONE SAID KEVIN INVOLVED IN SRC PROBE – JUST TALK THAT HE HELPED PREPARE CHARGE SHEETS FOR NAJIB’S ARREST

DEPUTY public prosecutor Anthony Kevin Morais, whose body was found in a concrete-filled barrel four years ago, had nothing to do with investigations into SRC International Sdn Bhd, the court heard today.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigating officer Rosli Husain said this during cross-examination by Najib Razak’s lead counsel Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, who said the former prime minister has been unfairly linked to the murder.
“Morais was not involved in the (SRC) investigations. In fact, I’m not sure whether he was involved in the 1MDB case as well,” he said, referring to an upcoming trial where Najib faces a further 25 criminal charges over 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
“So, the allegation that Kevin Morais is linked, is all lies?” asked Shafee.
Ad hoc prosecutor V. Sithambaram objected to the line of questioning, saying the Morais case, in which six men are currently on trial for murder, has nothing to do with the SRC International trial.
Shafee said to Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali, who presided over today’s hearing: “Because there is no gag order… my client is being linked to Kevin Morais’ murder.”
“My client not only wants to be acquitted but he wants to look whiter than white.”

Morais’ body was found in USJ 1, Subang Jaya, Selangor on September 16, 2015, 12 days after he was last seen leaving for work from his residence in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur.
Morais’ murder came about during the same time enforcement authorities were carrying out investigations into SRC International, as well as into 1MDB.
A criminal probe into SRC International formally began on July 6, 2015 and ended on December 31, 2015.
Najib faces seven criminal charges for receiving into his personal bank accounts RM42 million from SRC International.
For the 1MDB trial, set to begin tomorrow, he is accused of abuse of power and money laundering offences involving RM2.3 billion.
