IPOH: Even without any tax exemption, the purchase of cars for the Mentri Besar and Perak Exco is a good deal, says Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Faizal Azumu.
He said the 16 Toyota Camrys bought in March came with five years of free maintenance service.
"I was told that the state is trying to get the tax exemption. However, even if we don't get it, I stand by the purchase.
"With the deal we gotten from the car dealer, such as free maintenance, it will eventually save on the state's budget," he told reporters after attending the state Malaysia Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) dialogue Kinta Riverfront Hotel here on Tuesday (Aug 27).
The matter came to light following a statement by the Finance Ministry that the purchase of the cars by the Perak government did not receive any tax exemption, as the cars were assembled overseas.
The statement also said the ministry had not received any tax-exemption request from the Perak government.

"I have to check on the matter with our state finance officer," said Ahmad Faisal.
"This request is not handled by me or our my exco. We will bring up the matter in our state meeting tomorrow," he added.- Star
