Police: Action will be taken against Zakir if he speaks at Perlis event

Police will not allow controversial preacher Zakir Naik to address the audience at the "Malaysia Reverts Camp 2019" in Perlis.
"Zakir can come to Perlis, but he can't talk and action will be taken against him if he does so," state police chief Noor Mushar told reporters in Kangar, according to Star Online.
"We are a multi-racial country and the sensitivities of others have to be taken into consideration, " he added.

Noor Mushar said it would be best for Zakir and his family to refrain from speaking since more than 150 police reports have been lodged against the Indian-born preacher.
The police chief added that if Zakir wanted to deliver talks in future, the authorities must be furnished with a 10-day notice and informed about the subject matter.
Earlier, Malaysiakini reported that Perlis mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin had advised the organisers not to involve Zakir and his family in the programme given the current circumstances.
Publicised as one of the biggest gatherings of Muslim converts in Malaysia, the programme was to feature the preacher's wife and three children as well.
Zakir, who is a Malaysian permanent resident, courted flak over his remarks during a speech in Kelantan last week regarding the Hindus in Malaysia and Chinese Malaysians.
This prompted several ministers and various quarters to call for his deportation.
However, the preacher, who is wanted by Indian authorities for alleged money laundering, claimed that his statements were taken out of context. - Mkini
