Residents want action taken against restaurant operator

DOUBLE parking by diners of a restaurant in Kepong is driving residents of a nearby condominium up the wall.

Kepong Community Service Centre Head Yee Poh Ping said customers also double parked at the intersection.

“This results in traffic blind spots as residents can’t see cars coming from Jalan Kepong Baru, ” said Yee.

Vista Mutiara Condominium resident Chang Fook Wah, 42, said he witnessed an accident recently between two vehicles.

He claimed that before the restaurant began operations, the traffic situation was normal.

Yee claimed the restaurant is located on reserve land.

He said he lodged a report with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) on behalf of the residents last November, but no action has been taken so far. “During a meeting last November, the restaurant operator was given until February to relocate but until now there are no signs of it moving, ” added Yee.

Resident Theresa Mok, 62, said the restaurant operator agreed to hire Rela members to control traffic but this was short-lived.

“This route is the only way out for Vista Mutiara residents, ” said Mok.

Vista Mutiara Condominium Management Corporation chairman Ng Shei Kawee echoed Mok’s concerns, adding that vehicles coming from Jalan Kepong Baru are usually travelling at high speed.

Yee added that if DBKL does not take immediate action, he would have to take the matter up with DBKL’s Integrity Department and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

The restaurant operator said there have been no accidents as claimed by the residents and that they have asked customers to park elsewhere.- Star
