PETALING JAYA: MCA Youth is demanding that Putrajaya take action against Dr Zakir Naik after the controversial preacher said Chinese and Indians in the country, whom he labelled as “old guests”, should leave Malaysia first before he does.
In a statement, the wing’s chief, Nicole Wong, also wanted the government to “publicly rebuke and chastise” Naik, who has permanent resident status in Malaysia.
Naik’s call for Chinese and Indians to leave Malaysia warrants the highest criticism, she added.
“Zakir’s remarks have not only seriously offended the Malaysian Chinese community but are seditious in nature and have undermined Malaysia’s ethnic relations and unity.”
Naik was reported to have made the remarks during a speech in Kelantan last week when talking about how Islam was spread in the region through traders and Malaya later became “fully Muslim”.
“Then, you have the Chinese coming, the Indians coming, the British coming. They are our new guests.
“You know, somebody called me a guest. So I said, before me, the Chinese are the guests. If you want the new guest to go first, ask the old guest to go back,” he said in a recording found on YouTube.
Naik’s remarks come in the wake of him claiming that Hindus in Malaysia were more loyal to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi than to his Malaysian counterpart, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, despite receiving “100 times” more rights than Muslims in India.
Wong went on to say that the contributions of the Malaysian Chinese towards Malaysia are immense and definitely do not deserve “to be spat on or provoked by Zakir-like outsiders”.
She also said that as a “guest” in Malaysia, Naik should respect the laws and diversity in Malaysia and welcome the hospitality extended to him by the Pakatan government.
