SHAH ALAM: Unknown assailants attempted to pry open and drag away two cash deposit machines and an automated teller machine (ATM) in Setia Alam here Sunday (Aug 11).
Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Baharudin Mat Taib said police were alerted to the incident at around 8.10am.
"We received a call from the public over the incident at a bank along Jalan Setia Prima R U13/R.
"We arrived at the scene and found the three machines had been pried open and there were also chains attached to them.
"The suspects, however, could not get the cash boxes out of the machines," he said when contacted Sunday.
He added that the shutters closed automatically from 12am to 6am every day.
"Investigations based on CCTV footage at the scene show an unidentified male suspect dressed in a hooded jacket and shorts attempting to pry open the machines at 6.43am using a crowbar.
"Another suspect, also clad in a hooded jacket, then enters the building and attaches the chains and a hook to the machine before attempting to pull it out unsuccessfully. The duo fled the scene when they failed.
"We are unable to identify the vehicle used by the suspects as the cameras were not focused on the outside of the building," he said, adding that the entire incident occurred in about two minutes.
ACP Baharudin urged anyone with information on the case to contact Insp Ravind Subramaniam at 012-263 3203 or visit the nearest police station.- Star
