MELAKA: An environmental advocacy group wants the state government to act against marine pollution along the shoreline of Pantai Puteri here.
Melaka Consumer Affair and Environment Association chairman Murali Krishna said local fishermen captured a video of a vessel dumping coal dust into the sea.
"The footage was taken on Thursday (Aug 1) and the Melaka Department of Environment has been alerted on the irresponsible act," he said on Friday (Aug 2).
Murali said the ship was believed to be returning from a port here after delivering the consignment of coal.
Meanwhile, Melaka Agriculture, Entrepreneur Development, Agro-based and Cooperative Committee chairman Norhizam Hassan Baktee said he had also received reports on the alleged dumping incident along the Melaka coastline.
"This kind of act has been going on for some time and this time around, the fishermen helped us by providing evidence," he added.- Star
