Where’s your plan for Sabah, PBS asks Shafie

KOTA KINABALU: The Warisan-led state government has no development plan for Sabah except its resolve to portray itself as the champion of illegal immigrants, said a Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) leader.

PBS deputy president Radin Malleh told party members at a Sook PBS meeting today the state government had failed to present a proper blueprint for Sabah during the last state legislative assembly meeting.

“The meeting only saw the passage of supplementary bills. This is unlike the previous BN government, which had a proper ‘halatuju’ (direction) on where the administration wanted to bring Sabah.

“The Warisan government has no vision or mission for the state, not even fighting for the rights and interests of Sabah and Sabahans as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63),” he said.

Malleh, a former rural development minister, said this lack of direction was due to the way Warisan was formed in 2016.

He said Warisan was established because its president Shafie Apdal was disappointed after he was sacked from his ministerial post by the federal leadership.

Shafie was the rural and regional development minister until his removal in 2016.

Since Shafie established Warisan out of spite for the perceived mistreatment he received from Umno, he said, the local party and the state government it leads could not move forward because they were weak.

“All they can do is make empty promises and officiate development projects planned and implemented by the previous BN government.

“However, it is friendly to illegal immigrants, and the people know why. How many times have we read in the media about the immediate replacement of birth certificates and identity cards to victims whenever fire destroyed a squatter area?” he said.

Malleh claimed the government had also planned to gazette squatter areas as proper villages as announced by Deputy Chief Minister Jaujan Sambakong.

He said PBS found the proposition appalling, especially because the majority of those living in squatter areas were illegal immigrants.

He said the state government should deport them to their countries of origin. - FMT
