Zakir agrees to halt speeches, will meet with cops again next week

KUALA LUMPUR: Dr Zakir Naik will comply with police advice not to hold seminars and speeches for the time being, says his lawyer.
Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader, when met outside Bukit Aman on Thursday (Aug 22), said that while no black-and-white instructions were issued, his client would comply with the advice as investigations were ongoing.
The controversial preacher had arrived at Bukit Aman earlier to have his statement recorded.
“He has been advised but no instructions were given. He will heed and obey the law, ” said Akberdin.
He also said that a fresh police report has been lodged against Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Dr P. Ramasamy for comments against Zakir during a recent interview with the Indian press.
“He has accused Zakir of being venom, poison, hate-monger, fraudster and trickster, and (Zakir) has taken offence to all these allegations, ” said Akberdin.
On whether the police would call up the preacher for additional statements, the lawyer confirmed that he would be back on Monday (Aug 26).
“It should be around the same time as today, around 2pm, ” he said.
Zakir, however, did not address the press after having his statement recorded at Bukit Aman.
He was seen leaving the premises at around 7.30pm. This is Zakir's third visit to Bukit Aman this month.- Star
