PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (photo, above) said there is no need for DAP to push for Zakir Naik to leave Malaysia because he claims the Home Affairs Ministry has given its guarantee to the controversial preacher.
The PAS leader said he had asked the home minister about Zakir's extradition last July and the answer he received was a form of guarantee given to Zakir.
“According to the answer given by the home minister, Zakir entered and left Malaysia through valid and legal channels.
“The government also did not give him any special treatment.
“Besides that, the government has the right not to fulfil India’s extradition request because it is political in nature under Article 6 Paragraph (1)(a) of the Extradition Treaty,” Tuan Ibrahim said in a statement today.
Tuan Ibrahim also questioned the motive of DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang who had called for Zakir to leave Malaysia of his own volition.
Yesterday, Lim supported the notion of Zakir leaving Malaysia voluntarily.
However, PAS Youth deputy chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari had criticised Lim’s statement.
Tuan Ibrahim also added that the government has the right not to state the reasons behind rejecting an extradition request for the sake of justice for the person in question.
“This matter shows that what was done by the government was correct,” he said. - Mkini
