I first watched Mr Abiy Ahmed, 43 years old, in the following one minute YouTube video (I think early this year). He became Prime Minister of Ethiopia over a year ago. Ethiopia is that African country which produces some astounding models.
Ethiopia has over 110 million people of which about 1/3 are Muslim. It is actually a Christian majority country (over 60%). Abiy Ahmed a Muslim speaks in the Oromo language, of his Oromo 'tribe' which make up about 35 million people in Ethiopia.
Here is that YouTube video :

Basically he is telling the Arabs (the UAE in particular) to shove it.
Born of a Christian mother and a Muslim father, Abiy Ahmed has been a sensation not just in Ethiopia and Africa but also in Europe and in the US. Here is another quick 2+ minute video about 'Abymania' - which was made just three months after he became the leader of Ethiopia:
Here is today's New York Times on the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to Abiy Ahmed.
- Abiy Ahmed, prime minister of Ethiopia, awarded Nobel Peace Prize on Friday
- for his work in restarting peace talks with neighboring Eritrea
- ending a long stalemate between the two countries
When he became prime minister of Ethiopia in 2018, he threw himself at a breakneck pace into reforms at home, and peace negotiations with the rebel-turned-dictator Isaias Afwerki, president of Eritrea.
The two nations share deep ethnic and cultural ties, but until July last year they had been locked into a state of neither peace nor war, a conflict that had separated families, complicated geopolitics and cost the lives of more than 80,000 people during two years of border violence.
Congratulations are due to Mr Abiy Ahmed. In the past one year he has introduced a whole series of reforms including:
- freeing the Press
- legally recognising all 'opposition' groups including armed goups
- ending a 20 year conflict with Eritrea
- carrying out a war on corruption
I hope he will rule Ethiopia wisely and well for a long time. I think ALL Muslim countries can learn plenty from this young leader of 110 million people.
