Gov't re-tables bill to abolish Anti-Fake News Act

PARLIAMENT | The government has re-tabled a bill to repeal the Anti-Fake News Act 2018 in the Dewan Rakyat after its first attempt to do so was rejected by the Dewan Negara in September 2018.
The first time the government tabled the bill to repeal the Anti-Fake News Act, it was passed by the Dewan Rakyat on Aug 16, after the third reading.
However, when the bill reached the Senate, it was rejected after bloc voting saw 28 senators not supporting the repeal bill while 21 supported and three abstained.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Liew Vui Keong re-tabled the bill to repeal the act in the Dewan Rakyat today for its first reading.
Earlier this month, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had said the Anti-Fake News Act may be amended instead of being repealed as the country needs to curb the spread of false information.
