PETALING JAYA: Former Barisan Nasional (BN) component myPPP may be able to make a comeback, some 10 months after it was deregistered by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) following a leadership struggle.
A source told FMT that the home ministry has agreed to the party’s appeal to review the deregistration.
It is learnt that RoS, which comes under the home ministry, has asked warring factions to resolve their dispute through an independent third party.
“Both factions have to agree on appointing a third party and they must inform RoS as soon as possible,” the source said.
The multiracial but predominantly Indian myPPP, once known as the People’s Progressive Party, was deregistered following a power struggle between M Kayveas and Maglin Dennis D’Cruz, both of whom claimed to be the rightful president.
Maglin moved to have Kayveas expelled as president last year, a decision confirmed unanimously at the 64th MyPPP annual meeting just days after the general election.
Maglin’s faction claimed that Kayveas violated the party constitution by making decisions on the 14th general election without consulting the party’s Supreme Council.
The source told FMT that both factions must come to a collective decision on resolving their dispute.
“If re-elections are recommended as a solution, then the third party will be tasked with conducting the polls.
“If they do not follow the conditions set, myPPP will remain deregistered,” the source said, adding that both factions have been given until the end of the year to come up with a solution. - FMT
