PETALING JAYA: The Immigration Department detained 40 foreigners in multiple raids on premises run by elderly care-giving agencies in the Klang Valley, says Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud.
The Department's director-general said officers performed checks on 55 foreigners and detained 40 of them during the joint operation with the Welfare Department on Sunday (Oct 6), which saw agencies' premises in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya and Damansara raided.
"Those detained were 22 women and six men from the Philippines, three women and six men from Pakistan, a woman and a man from India and a man from Sri Lanka.
"They had committed various offences, including misusing passes and permits," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 8).
He added that the department discovered that the agencies provided courses and training on elderly care for foreign workers as well as maids with the promise of job opportunities after the courses are completed.
"The agency charged RM200 for each participant," he said.
During the raids, the agency's management failed to provide proper documents for conducting such courses and training, he added.
"Most of the participants were female foreign workers, who entered the country using social visit passes and as maids.
"Initial checks revealed that the women had passes to work as maids but they are not currently working, and some even fled from their employers," Khairul Dzaimee said.
Some of the women also entered the country as tourists and they had enrolled in the courses with the hope of landing jobs, he added.
"Foreign men, who worked in construction and agriculture sectors also took part in the courses and training in order to get part-time jobs," he said.- Star
And like always the employers would say that locals dont like this kind of job.
ReplyDeleteSome of this filipina they learn here for them to gain knowledge next time if they plan to work in other country and i think some employers aware about this
ReplyDeleteAs always the workers are desperate wage seekers looking to feed their families n themselves. The agencies are just business people who want profits but not the responsibility and hassle of getting proper work documents. Because these agencies offer cheap prices, legitamate companies go out of business and the market is flooded with illegal caregivers. The local industry cannot survive because of them. Good this was done by immigration but if not maintained all will be back to usual in few weeks.
ReplyDeleteBut caregivers especially Filipina they are the one who have patience to take good care of your elders in Malaysia. They take care elderly with love and passion.Only their violation is no proper document because no permit for nurses and caregivers in your country.Despite of no permit, most employer prefer to hire Filipino caregiver because they are proven as caring, committed to work, clever, and hardworking. As long as they are not committing serious crime like dealing drugs, killing, stealing, holdup, kidnapinhwhy dont u leave them and focus to those foreigner violating major crime. In fact caregivers and employers need to help each other and they both benefits their doings...
ReplyDeleteHowever, its your goverment law and I respect it.
Very well said
DeleteWhile I appreciate and agree that there are good filipina carers there are also bads ones. However good care quality does not override the law. The failure here is of the government in not providing training facilities for local caregivers. Hence there are no local trained caregivers. This will change and soon. Mark my words
DeleteI agree with PrettyMe, it's unfortunate Muslim Malaysia is not very welcoming for mostly Christian Filipinos.

DeleteThere is no doubt about what Filipinos can offer, however, as we all know, anywhere, if you are a foreigner in that country the most important thing before you engage in any kinds of job is to have the complete and PROPER documentation. Filipino being a good worker and giving good service are different story. Dont blame the country, in the first place they are aware that they are using improper documents but they still took a risk, and they should know that whenever they are being caught by the authority there will be a consequences.
