LATHEEFA’S LIP SERVICE – BUT NO ACTION BECAUSE NO PERMISSION FROM MAHATHIR? HADI & CO’S 1MDB CASES PART OF HIGH-PROFILE REVIEW, SAYS MACC CHIEF

THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is reviewing several high-profile cases, including allegations of PAS leaders receiving 1MDB money from Umno, said anti-graft agency chief Latheefa Koya.
According to Latheefa, she has revisited a list of cases involving public and private interests since her appointment.
“There are cases where I have to see for myself what’s going on.
“From the investigation papers I saw, some needed to be reviewed, while others were already slated for prosecution,” she said to reporters regarding the status of an investigation into PAS, after attending an Integrity Day Celebration at Kuala Lumpur Court Complex.
Latheefa said the agency would bring the cases to court once it was ready to do so.
Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown previously alleged PAS leaders had received RM90 million to encourage the party to work with Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN).
The issue resurfaced when PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang on February 1 withdrew his defamation case against Rewcastle-Brown over her articles containing the allegations.
Following which, nine PAS leaders – including Supreme Council member Hasim Jasin, secretary general Takiyuddin Hassan, exco Nasir Daud and former deputy president Dr Nasharudin Mat Isa – were called by the MACC to assist in its investigation.
MACC sources said investigators were trying to establish how the money was paid, the identities of the intermediaries and how the money was spent.
Sources said investigators screened the assets of the PAS leaders and found that they owned a variety of luxury vehicles including a BMW 525, Mini Clubman, Toyota Vellfire, Toyota Camry and Toyota Fortuner.
Other vehicles of note unearthed by the search were a Range Rover, Audi A6, Toyota Altis, Porsche Cayman, Audi Q7, Volkswagen Passat and several superbikes.
“Some are registered in their name and some are registered in the names of the second and third wives.
“Some were found to own luxury cars worth more than 1 million besides a bungalow worth more than RM3 million in the Klang Valley,” said a source.
