MCA has announced that the party’s annual general meeting would be held for two days from Nov 30.
This came after the original date on Nov 2 and 3 had to be postponed because it coincided with the Tanjung Piai by-election.
“The postponement of the MCA AGM necessitates the reorganisation and rearrangement of several logistic preparations, including venue, transportation, meals, and accommodation.
“As the MCA headquarters has essentially completed the preparatory works, the party has thus decided on the aforementioned dates for the AGM,” MCA secretary-general Chong Sin Woon (above) said in a statement today.
He said AGMs for both its youth and women’s wings will be held on Nov 30.
The general assembly, meanwhile, would meet from the evening of the same day until the next day.
Previously on Oct 1, Election Commission chairperson Azhar Azizan Harun announced that the Tanjung Piai by-election would be held on Nov 16, while nomination day would fall on Nov 2.
This prompted objections from MCA and Umno as the dates clashed with their respective AGMs.
MCA’s meeting was scheduled to be held on Nov 2 and 3, while Umno’s from Nov 13 to 16.
Umno had since announced that its AGM would be held from Dec 4 to Dec 6 instead to avoid a clash.
Azhar had apologised for the clash but said it was unavoidable, as other potential dates would coincide with various holidays. - Mkini
