MCA takes several DAP leaders to task over comic book fracas

PETALING JAYA: The MCA has taken several DAP leaders to task over the “Belt and Road Initiative” comic book fracas that led to the resignation of Hew Kuan Yau as the CEO of the Malaysia-China Business Council (MCBC).
Party secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon said more officials should also be scrutinised as the comic book was distributed to schools without prior approval from the Education Ministry and that it even bypassed protocols to be gifted to the Chinese President Xi Jinping.
“Is DAP making Hew the sole scapegoat? What about the officials, (Transport Minister) Anthony Loke, (Deputy Education Minister) Teo Nie Ching, (MCBC chairman) Tan Kok Wai?
“As the author, Hew definitely bears the most responsibility for penning the comic’s content. Thus, with the ongoing probe and the banning of the book, he is paying the price of his folly.

“However, Hew alone would never have been able to bring this comic book into school grounds, much less offer it as a souvenir for the Chinese President.

“Hence, it is logical to infer the involvement of a high official, especially ministers or their deputies, ” he said in a statement on Friday (Oct 25).
Chong claimed that according to Hew’s Facebook posts, Teo had met with Hew and received a copy of the tri-lingual comic book.
“In a separate post, Hew also expressed his gratitude towards Loke and Tan, who is special envoy to China for their help leading to the gifting of the comic book to Xi.
“All that being said, why is Hew facing the music alone to the point of resignation? Are DAP leaders only capable of beating around the bush and keeping quiet?
“Is it DAP’s strategy to have Hew act as the scapegoat to absolve the party and its ministers from judgment?” Chong asked, adding that Teo, Loke and Tan should come clean on the matter.- Star
