MyPPP saga: CWC meeting fizzles out, Kayveas to meet ROS

  • UPDATED at 6pm with response from Maglin Dennis D'Cruz.
A MyPPP central working committee (CWC) meeting held today by disputed president M Kayveas saw the absence of his rival Maglin Dennis D'Cruz and his faction.
The meeting was meant to discuss the recent reversal of MyPPP's deregistration as well as the conditions attached to the said reversal.
"We called this meeting for the committee given by Registrar of Societies (ROS) to settle this and appoint a third party. This was the agenda prepared.

"But only nine turned up out of 33. One or two made some calls but the main person, Maglin, was not there.
"So if he is not there, no point talking to anybody else because he is the person causing the problem," Kayveas told reporters today in a press conference.
The press conference was held at the Celestial Dynasty dim sum restaurant in Petaling Jaya, shortly after the meeting concluded.
Previously, Maglin also held a meeting with part of the committee, which Kayveas did not attend.
At that time, he had said he was prepared to meet with Kayveas to move forward with the ROS conditions.
Among the ROS' conditions for reinstating MyPPP is that it recognises the party's committee of 2014-2019 as the authority to appoint an independent third party to facilitate the feuding parties.
The independent facilitator must be endorsed by the all feuding parties and it had to prepare a report as soon as possible on how to resolve the dispute between the feuding parties.
The ROS added that the MyPPP committee of 2014-2019 may not exercise any other powers other than to appoint the independent facilitator and to hold the party election which must be held by Dec 31.
The ROS also listed the members of the committee of 2014-2019, which included the feuding leaders, Kayveas and Maglin (above), without mentioning their positions.
At the press conference today, Kayveas said he has already written to the ROS for a meeting so he could discuss with them about the developments from today.
"Our next action is to report to ROS that they (Maglin and his faction) didn't turn up, and they are not cooperating.
"That is it, we will inform ROS what is our next course of action.
"Then the May 27, 2018, elected committee will remain until 2023 because they (Maglin's faction) don't want to come.
"Election (by Dec 31)? They are not coming forward. We don't need an election if they do not come forward.
"The election is only if he wants to contest me. He can't even attend a meeting in front of me, I don't know how he wants to contest me," Kayveas said.
He also stressed that he currently wants to focus on saving the party from being deregistered again.
Once the party is in a stable enough position, he will hand over the reins to someone capable to lead the party.
However, he insisted that the person would not be Maglin.
Illegitimate meeting
Maglin later told Malaysiakini that the meeting today was illegitimate as it was called by an unrecognised secretary-general who is not part of the 2014-2019 committee.
Most of the committee who received an invitation to the meeting had already replied that they would not attend due to the short notice, he said.
Even though the letter was dated Oct 15, it was only sent out to them on the evening of Oct 17, he further explained.
On top of that, Maglin said he had already sent his suggestion for a third party as instructed by the ROS to Kayveas.
"I suggested we use the Bar Council and court arbitration (as a third party).
"There is no point we attend the meeting without a third party as we will just end up arguing," he said.
The party split after Kayveas took MyPPP out of BN following the coalition's defeat in the 14th general election.
However, Maglin's faction opposed the move and had tried to block MyPPP's exit from BN.
The protected tussle led to MyPPP's deregistration in January but it was given a conditional reinstatement in a ROS letter dated Oct 7 following an appeal to Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin. - Mkini
