PETALING JAYA: Former US president Barack Obama and his wife Michelle will be visiting Malaysia in December to speak at an inaugural gathering organised by the couple’s Obama Foundation.
This will be Obama’s first visit since his presidential term ended in 2016, and his third since 2015.
“The Leaders: Asia-Pacific” gathering will see the participation of 200 individuals from the Asia Pacific region representing more than 30 nations and territories.
“The Asia-Pacific region holds a deep well of talented and passionate emerging leaders, and it is a region of great importance to President Obama given his strong roots in Indonesia and Hawaii,” the foundation’s chief international officer Bernadette Meehan said.
The foundation said participants will address ethical dilemmas and work on creative, values-driven approaches to problem-solving.
“When participants return to their communities, virtual programming will continue for a year through a speaker series, technical trainings, educational workshops, action plan guidance, and support and amplification from the foundation,” it said. - FMT
