PONTIAN: Pakatan Harapan will tap the experience of Datuk Dr Md Farid Md Rafik's mother in their efforts to ensure the Tanjung Piai parliamentary seat stays with the coalition.
Pakatan Women chief Zuraida Kamaruddin said she met Norma Mohamed, 67, at the latter's home in Kampung Serkat Laut during her working visit to the Tanjung Piai constituency here on Sunday (Oct 13).
"Norma is a well-known and respected figure among the local community and had years of experience as she was once Tanjung Piai Wanita Umno chief for about 30 years.
"During our meeting, we also touched on the by-election and she shared some useful insights that can help us, especially our women's wing, prepare for the by-election and win it," she said when met after visiting the Pekan Nenas Fire and Rescue Station here.
She added that she welcomed if there were more women candidates from Pakatan as their number in Johor was quite small and it can be a factor for their victory.
On her visit to the constituency, the Housing and Local Government Minister said that her ministry had approved an allocation of RM3mil requested by the late Dr Md Farid for upgrading projects in Kukup including building a hall.
"Even though Dr Md Farid is no longer with us, I will make sure that the projects would continue as planned and fulfil his wishes," she said.
The Tanjung Piai seat fell vacant after the death of its MP Dr Md Farid from complications following a heart attack.
In the 14th General Election, Bersatu's Dr Farid had defeated Barisan Nasional's Datuk Seri Wee Jeck Seng of MCA and PAS' Nordin Othman.- Star
