The government is prepared to review its recipients list if there are any party left out from the newly introduced petrol subsidy scheme, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said.
He said the Pakatan Harapan government is committed to implementing the new subsidy mechanism, which is slated to begin on Jan 1, 2020.
“We have identified the recipients. However, should there be others who feel qualified, we are open (to consider),” he said today.
“Sabah and Sarawak have the lowest number of petrol users compared to the peninsular (Malaysia),” he added.
The minister was speaking to reporters at the Parliament lobby today.
Yesterday, Saifuddin announced the price of RON95 petrol price in Peninsula Malaysia will be floated according to world market crude oil prices, beginning next year.
In Peninsula Malaysia, the government stated it will introduce a new subsidy mechanism that will benefit vehicle owners currently on Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH) welfare payments, and the disabled.
However, the price of RON95 will still be capped at RM2.08 per litre for the territories of Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan, for now.
Qualified car owners will be paid RM30 per month, while motorcycle owners will be paid RM12 a month. Payments will be made quarterly to BSH-linked bank accounts.
If a qualified person owned both a car and a motorcycle, the person would receive only RM30 per month.
The minister had said the sum will be paid into identified recipients’ accounts every quarter.
