Additional Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (Stem) education laboratories will be set up in more schools statewide to promote the "fun" side of the stream and encourage students to take the subjects.
Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg said the laboratories, first launched in 2017, had so far been set up in ten schools in Kuching, Saratok, Lawas and Limbang.
“We have seen the impact of having the Stem laboratories, the students can create their own devices,” he told a press conference at the Satok STEM Carnival, in Kuching today.
Earlier in his speech, Abang Johari said the Stem laboratories, set up by the state government in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, was initiated due to the importance of the subjects for the children’s future and economic prosperity of the state.
‘’We want the setting up of the labs to raise awareness concerning Stem in the rural areas which will encourage the modernisation of farming.
‘’We want all places to have Stem laboratories. Come and see me if you don’t have funds, don’t just keep quiet,’’ he added.
