Shared Prosperity Vision will rectify past weaknesses, says Muhyiddin

KUALA LUMPUR: The Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 (SPV 2030) is a policy for all, regardless of race, Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said.

Muhyiddin, who is also the chairman of Institute Masa Depan Malaysia (MASA), said where previous policies were based on economic disparities among races, this new policy looks at “disparities from a wider scope”.

Through a more holistic approach, he said, all Malaysians regardless of race would be able to enjoy the country’s prosperity when the economic gap is narrowed.

“The basic principle is clear. Any marginalised segment of society will be assisted by the government, including the B40 group, 70% of which are Bumiputera.

“Specific strategies and initiatives will be implemented under the new vision to increase the income of B40 households and to provide them with various support and assistance to enhance their capability,” he said at the launch of SPV 2030 by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad at KLCC today.

Muhyiddin said Malaysia needs a new economic direction to take it to the next level and ensure inclusive and fair distribution of the nation’s wealth.

He said past policies had shown successes but had weaknesses such as in implementation, resulting in missed targets.

“Engagements with various stakeholders were held to obtain their input and from there, the idea of shared prosperity was conceived.

“Through SPV 2030, efforts will be made to ensure access to quality health, education and decent living standards, clean environment, and so on.

“All this contained in the road map. SPV 2030 is a continuation of Wawasan 2020 (Vision 2020). It is holistic and comprehensive,” he said.

Muhyiddin said the initiatives drawn up in SPV 2030 must be implemented by all government agencies.

“A monitoring mechanism needs to be developed to ensure targets can be met in 10 years,” he said. - FMT
