Hole in the road: Air Selangor personnel repairing the leak in the underground pipe.
PETALING JAYA: A burst underground pipe along Jalan Universiti here caused a sinkhole large enough to fit a car, back up traffic and cut off water supply.
Water flowed across the road from the damaged outlet yesterday morning creating the sinkhole, which “swallowed” a car.
The passing vehicle was damaged though no injuries were reported.
The location of the sinkhole was in front of the Sin Chew Daily News office, near the former Rothmans roundabout (now a cross junction).

Air Selangor has yet to determine the cause of the incident.
It also could not say when the water supply will resume in the affected areas.
A message left at the Air Selangor hotline at 8pm went unanswered.
A similar incident took place last year at the same spot along Jalan Semangat near the junction leading into Jalan 17/21.
As of 8pm yesterday, the affected households were still without water.- Star
