KUALA LUMPUR: Dr Mahathir Mohamad today said the statement by Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman on the Foodpanda food delivery service did not reflect the government’s stand.
The prime minister said the Cabinet did not discuss the matter.
“It was Syed Saddiq’s personal opinion. He may have had a reason for making the statement,” he told reporters at the parliament lobby.
Mahathir was asked about Syed Saddiq’s statement in his Twitter account yesterday that arrogance is not the solution to resolving the issues related to Foodpanda.
Syed Saddiq called for support for corporate companies that are fair to workers and consumers.
His comments followed a statement by Foodpanda Malaysia managing director Sayantan Das that the company will maintain the new payment scheme for delivery riders outside the Klang Valley.
The new payment scheme had received strong criticism and negative response from Foodpanda delivery riders. - FMT
