KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional MP Ahmad Maslan today criticised the Pakatan Harapan manifesto, saying it could be qualify as fake news since a lot of the promises remain unfulfilled.
Debating the Anti-Fake News Bill 2019 at the Dewan Rakyat today, the Pontian MP asked what had happened to PH’s promises on free education, toll-free highways and fuel.
“What happened? Not true, not true,” he said referring to the pledges made by the ruling coalition.
He also wanted to know what happened to promises to set up royal commissions of inquiry on 1MDB, Felda, Mara and Tabung Haji.
Ahmad then turned his attention on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commision (MACC), which had named him as one of the recipients of 1MDB money, an allegation he denied.
On the mention of MACC, a few MPs asked in jest the amount he received and whether the money had been deposited into his bank account.
“Not true,” said Ahmad.
RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) offered to provide pro bono services to Ahmad if MACC was wrong.
“As a lawyer, I can summon MACC. I will do it for free,” Rayer said, prompting laughter from the house.
Ahmad told Rayer “there are people I can trust and there are those I cannot trust”.
Speaker Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof then stepped in to say that MACC is handling the issue and that it should not be discussed in the Dewan Rakyat.
This morning, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad told Ahmad “thanks but no thanks” for his offer to advise the government on the benefits of bringing back the goods and services tax (GST).
“Thank you for offering your consultancy services, but your advice will destroy the government,” Mahathir said.
Maslan had offered his services if PH decides to bring back the GST, which was replaced with the SST last September. - FMT
