Numerous tweets from users in India is making the #BoycottMalaysia hashtag trend on Twitter after Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said India and Pakistan should work together to resolve the conflict over Jammu and Kashmir in a speech presented at United National General Assembly in New York on Sept 27.

"Now, despite UN (United Nations) resolution on Jammu and Kashmir, the country has been invaded and occupied. There may be reasons for this action but it is still wrong. The problem must be solved by peaceful means. India should work with Pakistan to resolve this problem. Ignoring the UN would lead to other forms of disregard for the UN and the Rule of Law," Dr Mahathir said in his speech.

Some claim in their tweets that it's untrue that Jammu and Kashmir are being occupied while others are accusing the Prime Minister of publicly siding with Pakistan against India in the ongoing dispute over the region.

They are also calling for a massive boycott of Malaysian tourism, products and services, including airlines. As of press time, there are over 8,800 tweets with the hashtag #BoycottMalaysia.

Malaysian users have also joined in the conversation by expressing disappointment over the #BoycottMalaysia hashtag. They are urging the others to focus on Dr Mahathir's speech asking for a peaceful resolution over India and Pakistan's territorial dispute instead of inciting more hatred.
