Woman to be charged on Friday for KL Marathon hit-and-run

Three runners were reported injured after a car broke through barriers during the KL Marathon on Sunday.
PETALING JAYA: A 25-year-old woman will be charged in the Ampang Magistrate’s Court on Friday for dangerous driving and knocking down three marathon runners last weekend.
Selangor traffic police chief Azman Shari’at confirmed the woman will be charged under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act for reckless driving in the hit-and-run incident.
If found guilty, she may face a maximum jail term of five years and a maximum fine of RM5,000.
The three runners, who were participants in the Standard Chartered Marathon 2019 on Sept 29, suffered injuries after being hit by a car that ploughed through safety barriers on the Middle Ring Road.
One of the three victims, Faizul Shahrul Mohd Salleh, is an aide to Rembau MP and former minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
Police are investigating the unemployed woman, who was remanded on Sunday, for allegedly consuming drugs but Azman did not say whether she will be charged under the Dangerous Drugs Act.
More than 30,000 people took part in this year’s KL Marathon, which has been held since 1989. They included about 1,900 runners from 73 countries. - FMT
