Johor Umno's Nur Jazlan Mohamed took a swipe at BN secretary-general Annuar Musa today, saying that the party grassroots had rejected the latter.
According to a Sinar Harian report, Nur Jazlan claimed that Annuar was being sidelined from being Umno secretary-general because the party members are "tired" (muak) of him.
"I believe that the decision by Umno leadership to appoint Ahmad Maslan as the new Umno secretary-general, replacing Annuar, is a signal that the party leaders and members have rejected Annuar.
"However, to give some face to him, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi instead appointed him (Annuar) as BN secretary-general," he said.
Nur Jazlan, who is the state Umno deputy chief, claimed that party members were unhappy with the Ketereh MP's attitude, as Annuar always defended Bersatu and acted like he was that party's spokesperson.
"Maybe the party (Umno) leadership made the decision (to replace Annuar) based on the grouses voiced by grassroots who are already tired of Annuar's attitude, being selfish so as to ensure that he won't face a challenge (from friendly parties) in Ketereh during next general election," he added.
Annuar and Nur Jazlan had been trading barbs since the past few days, which started with the latter labelling Annuar as a leader who has "already died" in Umno but refused to jump onto Perikatan Nasional's boat.
Yesterday, Annuar returned fire, saying that at least he contributed a parliamentary seat to Umno. While he did not name Nur Jazlan, it is believed that he was referring to the latter, who failed to defend his Pulai seat in the 14th general election two years ago.
To this, Nur Jazlan today challenged Annuar to contest the Pulai parliamentary seat which has a large percentage of voters from other races.
He added that Annuar should not beat his chest over winnings recorded at a Malay-majority area and easy seat. - Mkini
