'Boats, not yachts' - Peja admits making 'cheap' purchases during MCO

After posts claiming that Ahmad Faizal Azumu had purchased two yachts during the movement control order (MCO) period made rounds last weekend, the Perak Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairperson finally broke his silence.

Faizal (above), who is also known as Peja, took to social media today to explain the viral issue, saying he bought two boats, not yachts.

The two boats, one priced at RM50,000 and the other at RM80,000, were bought from a European who sailed to Langkawi during the MCO.

“When the MCO was implemented, he got stressed of living along here. When our borders reopened, he made the decision to leave this country.

“At that time, he was looking for a buyer for his boats. It’s not yachts, but boats and it was sold at a cheaper price.

“I don’t see anything wrong in buying the boats,” Faizal said in two videos which were posted on his Twitter account this afternoon.

Along with the posts, he included hashtags #BotBukanYacht and #PejaNotJhoLow.

He also revealed that the boats had been modified and he has a small boat business in Langkawi, that subsequently provided job opportunities for locals in Langkawi.

“I have asked my friend who runs this boat business for tourists there and so, I have a small business there.

“Praise be to God, among the businesses that I have ventured into, this boat business has profited me most.

“Thank you to those who are promoting what I have in Langkawi,” he added.

On Sunday, a Twitter user by the name of Nur Suhaila Muhammed claimed that Faizal had purchased two yachts.

Along with the post, Nur Suhaila uploaded documents of purchase, a copy of Faizal’s identification card and a letter to the director-general of Marine Department Langkawi, dated Sept 24, 2021.

The letter read, “I, Ahmad Faizal Azumu, owner of Temptation, hereby authorized Ong Liang Poh of SBM Shipping Freight (M) Sdn Bhd to act on my behalf for applications, including signing of required documents, to register the vessel under Langkawi International Yacht Registry.” - Mkini
