PETALING JAYA: Dewan Rakyat Speaker Azhar Harun has asked leaders of parties that won a “substantial” number of seats in the general election (GE15) to submit the names of parties and independents who have agreed to join forces to form the next federal government.
The respective leaders were also told to name an MP from their coalition to be Malaysia’s 10th prime minister through a statutory declaration, Azhar said in a statement.
“The documents mentioned above need to be submitted to Istana Negara no later than Monday (Nov 21), before 2pm,” Azhar said.
Earlier today, Istana Negara instructed these party leaders to form coalitions with other parties to establish a new government.
No single coalition won a sufficient number of seats to form the government on their own in the general election.
Pakatan Harapan, together with Muda, has the highest number of seats (82).
This is followed by Perikatan Nasional (73), Barisan Nasional (30), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (22), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (6), Warisan (3), Parti Bangsa Malaysia (1), Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (1) and two independents. - FMT
