PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan chairman Anwar Ibrahim has blamed former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad for the coalition’s failures during its 22 months in power.
According to a Sinar Harian report, the opposition leader said Mahathir’s inability to bring change after PH won the last general election led to discontent among the people.
“Who was leading when PH was in power? Who was prime minister if not Tun Mahathir?
“Without good administration and good governance, the country could not get back on track,” he said at an event in Bayan Lepas.
“The people struggled, prices of goods soared. Then, Muhyiddin (Yassin) replaced him (as prime minister) and things got worse.”
Anwar said during Muhyiddin’s tenure, people struggled and the country was under lockdown for a long time.
He also criticised Muhyiddin’s successor, Ismail Sabri Yaakob, saying the latter only increased the size of the Cabinet.
“They all actually failed, but when they could not answer for their failures, they blamed me, DAP and PH.”
Anwar, who is PH’s candidate for prime minister, said the government must restore confidence in the country.
“I will ensure Malaysia becomes an economic powerhouse again. I am confident we can revitalise the economy.” - FMT
