Exodus from Klang Valley on eve of voting

Major highways were clogged up this morning as motorists left the Klang Valley on the eve of the 15th general election (GE15).

As of 9.30am today, traffic information on Google Maps showed a 40km crawl from Batu Caves, Selangor heading east to Bukit Tinggi, Pahang along the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway.

Along the North-South Highway (Plus), traffic was heavy northbound between Tanjong Malim and Gopeng.

Some road users told Malaysiakini that traffic was at a standstill near the site of an accident that took place at 1am this morning, near Slim River.

Southbound traffic along the Plus highway is also heavy between Seremban and the Linggi exit.

According to Bernama, the Malaysian Highway Authority was also reporting an accident between Jasin, Malacca and Tangkak, Johor which also caused a southbound crawl.

On that note, a reader who is taking a flight from Subang Airport going back to Kuala Terengganu, also informed Malaysiakini that the airport was crowded, and the flight she is boarding was almost full.

Another reader, who was stuck in a traffic jam along the MRR2 highway, took more than two hours before passing through the Gombak toll to continue her journey to her hometown on the east coast.

Meanwhile, another reader heading to Penang from Kuala Lumpur, sent a photo of people queuing up for a toilet break in a petrol station near Tanjung Malim. - Mkini
