Friday Notes From The Quran (11/11/2022) : JUST IDLE NAMES WHICH YOU AND YOUR FATHERS CONCOCTED

 Non Muslims can skip this post. Just three verses from the Quran which I hope the Muslims will appreciate.

You are seeing this late because it has been raining the whole day today and my Internet connection (via smartfone) has been terrible all day. The Internet connection is getting from bad to worse. WhatsApp calls are already of poor quality and in this wet weather it is even worse. The services in the country are indeed falling apart. 

 

Here is something about NAMES from the Quran. The arabic word for name is 'ismi'. 

Here is Surah 22:78,

 

 

Sura 22:78  Strive in the cause of Allah in a manner worthy of that striving. He has chosen you, and He has not laid upon you any hardship in the Deen. Keep to the faith of your father Abraham. He (Allah) named you Muslims earlier (huwa sammaa-kumu muslimeena min qabli)  and even in this, that the Messenger may be a witness over you, and that you may be witnesses over all mankind. So establish salat and zakah, and hold fast to Allah. He is your Protector. What an excellent Protector; what an excellent Helper!

So in the Quran, it is Allah who has given the name 'Muslim'.  

He (Allah) named you Muslims (huwa sammaa-kumu muslimeena)

There are no other names other than just 'Muslim' in the Quran. 

Next is Sura 7:71 as follows: 

 

Surah 7:71  (Hud) warned them: ‘Surely punishment and wrath from your Lord have befallen upon you. Do you dispute with me about mere names that you and your forefathers have concocted and for which Allah has sent down no sanction? Wait, then, and I too am with you among those who wait.’

So do you dispute about what are just idle names that you and your fathers have concocted? Names that are not found in the Quran? Names that are not sanctioned nor do they have any authority bestowed upon them by Allah swt?

Names like Salafi, Wahabi, Sufi, Tablighi, Ahmadia, Shia..

 

Finally Surah 12:40,

Surah 12:40   Those whom you serve beside Him are merely idle names that you and your fathers have fabricated, without Allah sending down any authority for them. All authority to govern rests only with Allah. He has commanded that you serve none but Him. This is the Right Way of life, though most people are altogether unaware.

Other than serving Allah everything else are just names that have been fabricated - by you and your fathers. ("maa anzalallaahu bi haa min sultaanin .." - Allah did not send down with those names any authority or power). 

So remember in the Quran, it is Allah who has given the name 'Muslim'.  

He (Allah) named you Muslims (huwa sammaa-kumu muslimeena).

The name Muslim is not a concoction by you and your fathers.
