GE15: Don’t work with Perikatan, Baru Bian urges Abang Jo

KUCHING: Amid ongoing negotiations to form the Federal Government, a Sarawakian politician is appealing to state Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Sarawak MPs not to work with Perikatan Nasional.

Ba'kelalan assemblyman Baru Bian, from Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), said Sarawak’s multiracial and multireligious harmony must be preserved.

He said Sarawak Christians rejected Perikatan chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's statement last week, claiming that Jews and Christians were using Pakatan Harapan to Christianise Malaysia.

"We do not want the Premier to partner with Perikatan in any way or form," he said in a statement on Monday (Nov 21).

Baru also said Perikatan component party PAS and its president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang were not acceptable to Sarawakians.

"Sarawakians have not forgotten his insulting remarks that Sarawak indigenous communities were ignorant 'cawat' (loincloth)-wearing voters who did not know how to vote," he said.

Baru urged all Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) MPs to be vocal in rejecting Perikatan and PAS.

"Your constituents are watching you closely.

"Now is the time to show to us that you are truly ‘Sarawak First’ by rejecting racist bigots, because Sarawak represents multiracialism and a multireligious society where all religious beliefs are respected," he added.

On Sunday (Nov 20), Abang Johari said GPS would support a coalition with Perikatan, Barisan Nasional and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) to form the new government.

However, no pacts have materialised yet as Barisan has not decided who to support. - Star
