GE15 | Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) candidate Ahmad Idham Ahmad Nadzri has lodged a report with the Election Commission (EC) against his Pakatan Harapan opponent, Aminuddin Harun.
Ahmad Idham, a candidate for the Port Dickson parliamentary seat, claimed that Aminuddin cannot contest in the 15th general election (GE15).
He was this was because Aminuddin was still the Negeri Sembilan menteri besar when the latter filed for nomination to contest in Port Dickson.
Ahmad Idham (above), who is also former CEO of the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas), said Aminuddin’s nomination was in contravention of Article 48(1)(c) that stipulates a person is disqualified if they hold an office of profit.
“Thus, he (Aminuddin) should be disqualified from contesting in GE15 as a parliamentary candidate, as he still holds a salaried position, as stated in the Constitution.
“I urge the Election Commission to review this matter (Aminuddin’s nomination) according to the Constitution, as the commission can be looked up upon as an agency which upholds the Constitution,” said Ahmad Idham in his protest letter sent to the EC on Nov 7.
When contacted, Ahmad Idham confirmed sending the protest letter and said that he is awaiting a reply from the EC.
Malaysiakini has reached out to the EC for comment.
The Port Dickson parliamentary seat used to be a Harapan stronghold, held by the coalition’s chairperson Anwar Ibrahim.
However, for GE15, the seat was handed to Aminuddin to defend, while Anwar moved to the Tambun parliamentary seat in Perak.
Besides Aminuddin and Ahmad Idham, three other candidates are also vying for the Port Dickson seat: BN’s P Kamalanathan, Perikatan Nasional’s Rafiei Mustapha, and independent candidate Rani Kulup. - Mkini
