KUALA LUMPUR: Former PKR vice-president Tian Chua says he will leave it to the public to assess P Prabakaran of PKR to see if he is the rightful person to be the MP for Batu.
Tian Chua said Prabakaran, having been elected in 2018 with Tian Chua’s backing, now had to convince the people based on his record as an MP.
“Now, he (Prabakaran) has to seek the people’s mandate by himself,” said Tian Chua, who was MP for Batu from 2008 to 2018. He was unable to defend his seat in 2018 when he was disqualified on nomination day.
Prabakaran joined PKR after winning the seat. He was named by PKR to defend the seat, prompting Tian Chua to contest as an independent.
The Batu seat will be a contest among 10 candidates, with big names such as MIC vice-president A Kohilan Pillay (Barisan Nasional) and Gerak Independent’s Siti Kasim in the fray. - FMT
